Robin Anderson is Associate Professor in the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology at The University of Melbourne, Head of the Breast Program and Head of the Metastasis Research Laboratory at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. She is also Editor-in-Chief of Clinical & Experimental Metastasis, the predominant journal for metastasis studies. Her research is focussed on the genetic regulation of metastasis, primarily in breast cancer and is aimed at identifying new targets for molecular based therapy for patients with progressive disease. Her group has developed preclinical models of metastatic disease that have been used to identify genes, both in the tumour cells and in the tumour microenvironment that regulate the process of metastasis to specific organs such as bone, liver, lung and brain. The preclinical models are also used for trialling novel anti-metastatic agents targeting gene products found to drive metastasis.
