Dr Burney is currently the Head, Cabrini Monash Psycho-oncology Unit. In this role, Sue leads research and education projects in psycho-oncology; co-ordinates the clinical psychology services in palliative care at Cabrini Prahran; mentors research staff; trains university students in psycho-oncology; implements and evaluates psycho-educational programs for cancer patients and their families; and manages professional placement and research supervision of postgraduate psychology students from Monash, Deakin and Victoria Universities.
Dr Burney is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University, and an Adjunct Associate Professor (academic governance), TMC Academy Singapore. She currently teaches health psychology to postgraduate students at the Australian Catholic University. Dr Burney is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society and received the 2013 Award of Distinction for the APS College of Health Psychologists for her contribution to health psychology over the past 20 years.
