Catherine Shannon

Catherine Shannon is Senior Medical Oncologist at Mater Cancer Care Centre and director of Medical Oncology Research at the Mater Adult Hospital Brisbane. She has a special interest in breast and gynaecological malignancy. She is the principal investigator on a number of clinical trials in breast and gynaecological malignancy and a member of the Australasian collaborative research groups for Breast, gynaecological and lung malignancies. She is a current executive member of the Australasian Society for Breast Disease, past member of the executive for the Medical Oncology Group of Australia and is on the breast advisory panel for Cancer Australia. Catherine completed her medical degree at the University of Queensland. Her medical oncology training was undertaken in Sydney at Westmead and St Vincent’s Hospitals. She went on to complete her senior registrar training in breast and gynaecological malignancy with the NSW Breast Cancer Institute and Westmead Hospital. Following the completion of her fellowship she moved to London to work in the Breast Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Catherine has extensive experience with clinical trials of new drugs for the treatment of malignancy. She has an interest in evidence based survivorship care for oncology patients.
